Early detection of cow with endometritis (uterine infection).

Symptoms

Endometritis is a bacterial infection of the uterus that can occur following an abnormal calving or calving related disease process.

Early Diagnosis -The Process

A swab stick is carefully inserted in to the vagina. Cows with endometritis may have an abnormal discharge. In some cases, it may be necessary to manually examine the cow’s uterus in addition to using this. VETLAB will the try to culture the bacteria in lab if there is growth it will show a positive case for endometritis and with ABST can find the right sensitive drugs against those bacteria.

Early Identification

Early identification of endometritis allows for treatment before the commencement of mating which will give the infected cows the best chance of getting back in calf sooner. Successful treatment of endometritis can mean as much as an extra 20-30 days in milk per cow treated the next lactation.

Ruminant Pregnancy Test The Early PregT Test is an enzyme-linked immunoassay for the detection of early pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (early PAGs) in serum or EDTA plasma of cattle, serum of sheep and goat and EDTA plasma of water buffalo and bison as a marker for pregnancy. The Test can be used in serum and EDTA plasma as early as 28 days after breeding in cows with no interference from a previous pregnancy as early as 60 days after calving. It can also be used from 28 days post breeding in goats, from 30 days post breeding in buffaloes, and from 35 days post breeding in sheep.
